Chlay's Christmas Tutorials -Salt dough glitteryfulchristmas

Today we shall make...
Decorationssss :)
You will need;

Salt Dough Recipe [below]
Rolling Pin
Cutters
Extra Flour
PVA Glue
Silver &/or Gold Paint/Spray Paint
Glitter [Sequins -Optional]
Ribbon
Newspaper & or paper plates
Tinfoil or greaseproof paper
Paint brush [preferably a flat one]

Salt Dough Recipe
  • 2 cups of plain flour
  • 1 cup of table salt
  • 1 cup of water
Get your ingredients - & Mix them up until it forms a nice dough like this

Roll it out & sprinkle flour & cut it out into shapes wiyh your cutters
Remember if you want to hang them up you need to put a hole in the top with a skewer  or something sharp :)

Bake on a low heat until the dough is completely dry, hard & solid (small items could probably air dry) If you bake too high the shapes will go all eeeep & disformed etc

When they are baked and have cooled down this is when you want to spray paint them if you are going to do so, remember to do it outside so you don't get poorly from the fumes

If you are going to paint them , it takes a bit longer, and I used a mix of paint and PVA to make it stick better, if you don't want to paint them, just skip this & do the next step to both sides and the edges

Leave them out over night to get rid of the fumes, then lay out your table or tray with newspaper and get 3 paper plates or pieces of newspaper
These will be ;

1- PVA Glue
2- Glitter
3- Finished shapes

Place a blob of PVA onto your plate, grab your paint brush and cover your shape in PVA, if you're worried about covering up the hole, stick a needle or toothpick in it

Then get your glitter, and if you have the tubes with little dots in them, just shake away until you're happy that it's all covered :) you can be as expressive as you like, here are some more traditional ones..

& this ones a bit more chlayish

Leave them overnight, possibly more if you went a bit crazy with the glitter (a la me;) )

Now get your ribbon and thread it through  the hole , cut it to an appropriate length, and tie it into a knot or bow

If you do ones like these you don't need holes and can just wrap it round like so :)

Now here are some photos of them hung up on our christmas branch,
*remember to space them out as they are pretty heavy*
(yes ours just fell over while I was on the phone to rosie as I put them all on one side to get photos ;) )

I shall put up tutorials of some of our other decorations too :) and a real picture of the christmas branch , as if you can't have a christmas tree these are a lovely alternative :) I'm allergic to christmas treessss , I miss them ;)

Loveeee x
