Paul De Luna

Pixie girl in the stream ....

I want to come and play with thee, in spirals of smoke and splashes of water

Dancing on river rocks, dancing for all of us
Dressing up or dressing down you always look divine

Ivory face , so full of grace, I wish that look was mine

Sitting on tree stumps - all is magical, all is fine.

Chlay Update-
We have succeeded thanks to my amazing family, I go into hospital for my assessment for a week in September, Eeek!
My fortnight has been very strange ...  I had a virtual holiday because I couldn't get to a teepee in the woods, which I thought would be lame, but it was Magical, I love my friends and family for being so wonderful and for life for being so interesting.

I tried a reiki retreat at home for the first time ever, but the ambulance people came to see me that day.Um I had an aromatherapy lesson and a reflexology session in the same day, I was meant to have sound therapy too but it got cancelled.
I now have a beautiful meditation area which will be amazing for drawing and knitting in when I can sit up more :)

Lots of love, and go tell me what you want to see on the blog :) twitter is probably easiest, go via the links and tell me, I'll even do a video if you like
Hope you're all having a wonderful summer holiday

Parlor Boutique

Hello lovelies, this is a wonderful company, and the owner happens to be a fellow poorly person, so again a slightly different interview, I hope it helps with understanding chronic illnesses a bit more, even if it just helps or inspires one person, Lucy is amazing and her products have the vintage edge that I love, along with some cute sweet and pretty items too! Lots of love to you all
Here we go;
Interview with Lucy - The Parlor

What is the name of your illness(s) and to what degree do they affect you?

I was diagnosed with M.E at 16 and subsequently didn't finish school with any qualifications, as at that time there wasn't the scholastic support system they have in place now. My main symptoms were heart related and years later I was diagnosed with tachycardia (my resting heart rate would shoot up to 140bpm!) and p.o.t.s (the least glamorous name). For nearly 8 years I was pretty much housebound and relying on a wheelchair to get anywhere, it felt quite humiliating at first, but then you realise it's the only way you're going to get to go out and about!

After a few trials and errors on numerous medication my health started to improve so now I no longer need to use a wheelchair, but standing can be a huge problem and I still vary from feeling grotty to reasonably ok.

I made all of the images bigger so that you can see the quality and detail of the items, as well as the 'finishing off' it's clear to see that Lucy has such talent

How does it affect your ability to work and run a business, and are there benefits to your health with working for yourself and at home?

It effects my work a huge deal. I would love to take on more responsibilities, business endeavours, more fairs etc. but as I have the limitations I just keep being appreciative of what I can do and achieve for the time being.
I love working from home, it's probably the only thing I can do right now. Making a job for myself did wonders for my self esteem when I didn't have a lot else to rest on.
Although the downside is that it can get incredibly lonely if you're the only one in the house in all day. I'm usually desperate for human contact by the time my boyfriend gets in from work when he usually wants peace!
I usually don't like 'music inspired' jewellery, but I think this is beautiful and perfectly unique
What kind of things do you need to do to successfully work around your health limits?

I work in a really small space so all of my components/computer/tools are all within reach. I also need lots of help with fairs for the heavy lifting/unpacking of equipment and generally helping out with posting of orders.

What's your favourite thing about having your company?

I get to make the quality product I just don't see on the highstreet. I am incredibly passionate about what I make and want it to last the test of time, just like highstreet jewellery used to do in the 1950's onwards. I love working with antiques and vintage findings and getting to create the visuals I have in my head in as well as working on the design of the shop. And just the general sense of achievement of having created something from very little to nothing.

What would you say to someone who also has a health problem and wants to start a business?
Start small and see how it goes, often businesses take off by themselves so don't set yourself unreasonably high targets that can leave you feeling underwhelmed or stressed. Enjoy yourself! Running your own business is very stressful at times, both in good ways and bad. Don't avoid the tax man and be ethical in what you sell/do!
It's a great way to branch out from the norm and to do what you truly want to in life, you don't need to rely on qualifications, just being enthusiastic and doing something off your own bat is enough of a head start. It's better to work on your own CV with your own interests than to try to fit yourself (and health) into someone else's criteria. With the advent of the internet you can pretty much create any job you want for yourself and set you own rules.

I also love these, the little jewel added to each earring just makes it that much more delicate and intricate and anything in french is lovely to me

What things do you wish someone would of told you before you started up your business?

To be honest, I think you learn as you go. You need to be naive enough to take on challenges otherwise you'll never learn. But try to learn from other peoples mistakes and don't ever stop following your passion and what makes you happy. Just be aware that it's a lot of work.

I really love this piece as well, you can see how well each bead is attached and the clasp details with the rose, simply beautiful

What things keep you positive and smiling on poorly days?

My house rabbit Vincent is pretty damn cute - he hops around generally happy with life. Creating something really beautiful, good books, writing, making music, the internet!

Lotus Blossom Jewellery

Hello darlinkas, I've missed you all lots, but I'm excited to show you a more spiritual interview, and something that relates to a big part of my life right now.
Crystals and Chakras have such power to heal and jewellery is the most easy and simple way to heal yourself, especially for those of you who can't make time to sit on a couch/bed with crystals all over you! So here is the wonderful Jill from Lotus Blossom Jewellery who is inspired by yoga, nature, chakras and so much more, so please take a look at what she is donating to the Give Away :) (Follow for 10 entries)

When did you first get the idea for starting your own business & where were you when the thought first hit you?
My yoga teacher Joanna Najduch http://www.yogawithjoanna.com/ saw some pictures of my jewellery that I’d put on Facebook. She suggested that I take them to yoga workshops that she organises and it started from there. I got lots of suggestions how to develop ideas and the sort of products people wanted to see. It became clear that people wanted silver and semi precious stones so that the materials would be hardwearing and withstand the rigours of a dynamic yoga practice. I started to learn more about stones and their meanings as I created my pieces of work and researched the qualities believed to be inherent in stones.
What do you think sets your work & company apart from others?
I hope to make all my buyers 100% happy with their purchases and create custom pieces for the individual using symbols, colours and stones of their choice where possible.

I am desperate to get my hands on some of these silver pendants as I make jewellery and I thing they would be amazing gifts, but for those of you who aren't arty, there is  Lotus Blossom Jewellery

What was the idea behind the name of your company?
The lotus symbolises beauty and purity in the Indian culture – that is what I hope my choice of materials and designs embody.

The necklace I am wearing is one of the amazing designs done by Jill at Lotus Blossom, the crystal beads have a really beautiful calming energy to them/ me

Were you a creative child? If so what were some of the artistic activities you used to enjoy?
Yes I was –and still am! My full time job is an art teacher. I teach children from year 5 to year 13. I love using a wide range of materials and ideas in my work. I love working with clay, textiles, printmaking and drawing.

Is this not stunning? The gorgeous silver lotus flower mixed with the bright flash of intense colour of turquoise is so lovely

When did you get into yoga?
I started yoga 3 years ago. I go to classes 4 times a week and also do yoga at home by myself. I enjoy a range of styles – ashtanga, vinyasa flow and yin yoga. I like the contrast between very dynamic yoga and yin yoga where you hold poses fro up to four minutes and relax into the stretch.

Personally what is your favourite crystal and why, is it for aesthetics or healing properties?
I like aventurine which is a green colour and associated with qualities of love and healing.

What values did you want your company to have when you first started out
(eco friendly, fair trade, no animal testing etc)
What part of the process do you enjoy the most ( as in, coming up with the ideas, physically making the item, testing things out, packaging and image, promotion and so on)
I use charms and pendants created by the Karen Hill Tribe people of Thailand. The charms are 95 – 97% silver, so purer than sterling silver. Each item is hand made and their sales supports the craftspeople of these tribes.

My yoga teacher generally tests out my pieces before I sell them. It has been very valuable to have someone to test my work before selling it. My chakra bracelets had to be created with the best quality stringing materials and I am confident that they are very hard wearing.
I enjoyed creating my logo but am going to further improve it and am hoping to have my own website developed in Summer so my jewellery will be easier to find
What inspires you , creatively & as a person, and do you think you see the world in a slightly different way to your peers & if yes, how so?

I am inspired by the natural world, I love the colours of the semi – precious stones I use and the chakra colours.

There is so much detail in this necklace it's unreal, any photo I took wouldn't do it justice but I hope this gives you and idea of the style

 This is what Jill had to say about her gorgeous necklace;

yoga inspired chrysocolla and turquoise Om pendant
17" beaded necklace created from 4mm chrysocolla beads, 8mm turquoise and chrysocolla beads, turquoise chips and 3mm sterling silver spacer beads.
A 25mm hammered Om Karen Hill Tribe pendant completes this necklace

Turquoise and chrysocolla are both associated with the Throat chakra and said to enhance communication and strengthen and calm the body and mind.

As quite a lot of you know I'm obsessed with chakras (and now reiki and the throat chakra is one that I like to take care of being a singer and often expressing my views in different ways  and now that I can't eat I take extra care of it with my reiki :)

In your opinion, what is the most rewarding thing about owning your own creative business, and what is the biggest compliment a customer can give you?
I am very happy when people say how happy they are with my jewellery at yoga workshops

I adore these, they're so different and all of the jewellery is of Such high quality, it's magnificent

Another little photo of the unique and precious item you could win (and me looking away with the fairies as per usual)

So a big Thankyou to Lotus Blossom Jewellery for being so kind and generous and helping us raise awareness of M.E !
Love as ever, Chlayfairy
